Having been raised with German as my first language while living in Canada, Germany and in the U.S., I love
sharing my own personal background and cultural upbringing with my students. Celebrating Festtage (holidays) and uniquely German idiosyncrasies helps students connect with the real culture of Germanspeaking countries, rather than simply reading out of a textbook.
In addition to learning the language at home, I completed my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education, earned a major in German Language, and certification to teach English as a Second Language at Western Washington University. I was privileged to complete my teaching internship in Bamberg, Germany, during which I traveled almost every weekend to explore more corners of Europe and sample delicious specialties from across the continent.
I relocated from the Northwest and began teaching at LCHS in 2006 after marrying my husband, who moved from the frigid regions of Alberta, Canada, to fulfill his dream of living close to the beach. Now I spend the time I have with my children, baking special occasion cakes, entertaining, and traveling whenever possible.
I look forward to continuing my partnership with this fantastic District and fostering in students a love of German for many more years to come.
